Duty Free Border Downtown | UETA
Travel Retail Operators
UETA
UETA is a subsidiary company of the Miami based Duty Free Americas (DFA) Group, this division operate the cross-border duty free stores on the American side of the Mexican border. Their outlets span from Texas across to California and they sell a full range of goods.
All goods sold at tax-free prices must be exported across the border into Mexico, but now the stores have started selling certain goods, like perfumes to non-travellers. However, the local sales tax is added to the price of these goods, if they are not for export. This can seem confusing, especially when some messages often say 'we now sell to all customers'. In the case of cross-border shopping in the USA, if you buy tax-free, your goods will be delivered to you at the crossing point and not at the store, so to ensure export. If you take your goods directly from the store, sales tax will be added to the cost.
How does duty free work, can you buy, which products do they sell, what shops are available, do they open for my flight, best prices?.
There is a long list of duty-free related questions asked by travellers before they start their journey.
